Large studio painting completed for ROI submission

New studio work on a larger scale
Article text
I have been painting in the studio recently and working on some larger paintings. This one is called 'Calm water by the Packing shed at dusk'. It was painted from sketches I had made on the beach at West Mersea and a photograph. The photograph came in useful for referring to the construction of the boats but I tried to keep the style lose and not get carried away with detail.

The main focus of this work was to paint within a very close tonal range and create the feeling of calm water when the sun goes down.

The painting is 60cm x 85cm and will be submitted to the Royal Institute of Oil Painters for consideration for their annual exhibition 2012.
